Biography

Christopher Buchholz was born in Los Angeles. He is the son of Horst Buchholz and his wife Myriam Bru. Following his father's footsteps, Christopher became an actor. His first main role was that of the assasin Ali Agca in Giuseppe Fina's movie THE PLOT TO KILL THE POPE, produced in 1986. For this performance Christopher was awarded best new actor at the Florence Film Festival. In Germany he became known through his participation in the serial DAS ERBE DER GULDENBURGS. Fluent in English, French, Italian, and German, he mostly works in France, Italy, and the USA. Christopher's first production in German was HELLER ALS DER MOND/ BIGGER THAN THE MOON, produced in Austria and directed by Virgil Widrich in 1999. In 2001 Christopher performed the main role in EROS - THE DANGEROUS THREAD OF THINGS, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, a story about a couple drifting apart. In 2002 Christopher played in the historic feature LUTHER, with Ralph Fiennes and Peter Ustinov, directed by Eric Till, and in the German two-part tv movie DER SEEROSENTEICH, directed by Johannes Fabrick.
In 2003 he took part in Jo Baiers tv feature STAUFFENBERG. Two years later Christopher played one of the leads in DREI SCHWESTERN MADE IN GERMANY, directed by Oliver Storz. In 2007 he appeared in several eopisodes of COMMISSARIO LAURENTI. Next to the French films DETOUR and DES HOMMES he played one of the main roles in Jovan Arsenic's movie DIE HELDEN AUS DER NACHBARSCHAFT. The following year he participated in two French tv features and played in the british movie SHANGHAI, directed by Mikael Hafstrom. In 2009 he was part of the cast in the film pic 180° - WENN DEINE WELT PLÖTZLICH KOPF STEHT, and in 2010 appeared in the French film LES HOMMES LIBRES. Christopher is from 2010 until 2023 director of the festival DAYS OF FRENCH FILM in Tuebingen.

Christopher Buchholz has also worked as the director of two one-act plays by Anton Chekhov - THE BEAR and THE MARRIAGE PROPOSAL - and of two short films titled HAPPY BIRTHDAY and LES JARDINS DES MAUVAIS GARCONS. In cooperation with his wife, documemtarist Sandra Hacker, he produced the film HORST BUCHHOLZ ... MEIN PAPA, a very personal reflection of his father and family, in 2005.
