German born actress and singer/songwriter Katharine Mehrling has studied acting and musical theatre in London (London Studio Centre) and New York (Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute).Katharine made her theatre debut in the Old Vic in London's West End in the Musical HAIR directed by Michael Bogdanov (English Shakespeare Company), choreographed by Anthony
Van Laast. She played the part of 'Chrissy' along side John Barrowman and Paul Hipp.
The 'Original London Cast Recording of the Hair revival' was produced by Mike Batt.
Back in Germany, Katharine won the prestigious Federal singing contest in the Berlin 'Theatre des Westens' for musical theatre and chanson.
Katharine has played numerous roles such as Sugar Kane in SOME LIKE IT HOT, Evita in EVITA, Polly in DIE DREIGROSCHENOPER (THREEPENNY OPERA), Sandy in GREASE, Eponine in LES MISERABLES, Norma Cassidy in VICTOR/VICTORIA (European premiere) and the leading role in Kander and Ebb's AND THE WORLD GOES ´ROUND (European premiere).
An intense cooperation with director Andreas Gergen linked her with the Schlossparktheater Berlin. She performed as Little Sally in URINETOWN (European premiere), Ottilie von Henkeshofen in WIE EINST IM MAI, Lilian in DIE 3 VON DER TANKSTELLE and Amnesia in NON(N)SENS.
In more than 250 performances, Katharine played the part of Sally Bowles in CABARET, in the 'Bar Jeder Vernunft' in Berlin (Director: Vincent Paterson).
Katharine Mehrling has appeared in a number of short-movies and TV series, released various CD's and produced the electronic jazz album MIDNIGHT STATE OF MIND featuring her own songs. She now cooperates with jazz-clarinetist Rolf Kühn to produce a new album.
A reoccurring role in Katharine's vita is the role of PIAF. In three different productions she embodied the French legend.
Having lived in Paris for a time and taking her studies further in French chanson, inspired her to create her own program, HOMMAGES, dedicated to great french artists such as Aznavour, Brel and of course Piaf. With her musicians, Katharine has performed concerts all over Europe.
She was also invited by Horst Köhler, Germany's President of the Federal Republic, to perform at the castle Bellevue.
Most recently Katharine starred in the One-woman-Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, TELL ME ON A SUNDAY and played the title role in IRMA LA DOUCE at the Tribuene Berlin.
Katharine appears as the female singer in the Officer's Club scene in the new Bryan Singer movie VALKYRIE starring Tom Cruise. She also is to be heard on John Ottman's soundtrack with the song FÜR EINE NACHT VOLLER SELIGKEIT.
