Biography

Born in the village Hanau in the German state of Hessia, Katharine Mehrling started exploring large metropoles such as London, Paris and New York early on in her career. Since 2000, she lives in Berlin.
Katharine Mehrling studied acting and musical theatre at the London Studio Centre and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York. She gave her stage debut as Chrissy in HAIR at the Old Vic Theatre in London's West End.
Her great successes on stage include leading parts in IRMA LA DOUCE, PIAF, CABARET, SOME LIKE IT HOT, FUNNY GIRL, KISS ME KATE, DIE DREIGROSCHENOPER, BLEIB NOCH BIS ZUM SONNTAG and EVITA, the latter at the Ronacher Theater, Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, Vienna.
Katharine's acting work in movies and on TV include the Bryan Singer production OPERATION WALKÜRE/Valkyrie and the episode “Mauritius” from the German TV series TRAUMSCHIFF. In the German TV movie production LIEBE AUF DEN ERSTEN TRICK, she appears alongside Dieter Hallervorden, Veronica Ferres and Steffen Groth.
To pay homage to her favourite musical genres, jazz and chanson, Katharine created the stage shows HOMMAGES, BONSOIR KATHARINE, PIAF AU BAR, MEHRLING AU BAR und AM RANDE DER NACHT.
She wrote and produced the album AM RANDE DER NACHT together with German jazz legend Rolf Kühn, and recorded in the Berliner Hansa Studios. This album was followed by a personality show of the same name in Berlin's Wintergarten Varieté, for which Katharine was awarded the Lale Andersen Young Talent Award by Gitte Haenning.
In 2015, Katharine Mehrling celebrated the 100th birthday of Edith Piaf at the Komische Oper Berlin in two concerts with large orchestra, and in the presence of Piaf's composer Charles Dumont. Her concert performed with the NDR radio philharmonics, KATHARINE MEHRLING SINGT PIAF (Dirigent: Enrique Ugarte), was broadcasted on the radio station NDR Kultur.
Mehrling is awardee of the prestigious national singing contest “Bundeswettbewerb Gesang”, and in 2013 became part of the jury herself. She is the four time awardee of the Berlin audience award “Golden Curtain” for most favoured actress for her following work: for her impersonation of Judy Garland at the Schlosspark Theater in END OF THE RAINBOW, her roles at the Renaissance-Theater in FAST NORMAL/NEXT TO NORMAL and EWIG JUNG, her performances at the Komische Oper Berlin in Barrie Kosky's productions ARIZONA LADY and BALL IM SAVOY as well as for her impersonation of Eliza Doolittle in MY FAIR LADY in 2016 at the Komische Oper Berlin. Moreover, she received the Berliner Bär 2016, the cultural award of the Berlin newspaper “BZ” and 2019 the "Große Hersfeldpreis" for FUNNY GIRL.
In the years 2013 and 2017, Katharine moderated the award ceremony “Goldene Henne” (“Golden Hen”) Gala at the Friedrichstadtpalast Berlin. In 2015, she moderated the Magnus Hirschfeld Gala in the Wintergarten Berlin, and, together with Thomas Hermanns, the very first award ceremony for the German Musical Theater Award at the Tipi am Kanzleramt Berlin.
Since 2017, Katharine is lending her voice to the character Storm E. Sky in the American cartoon series LALALOOPSY on Netflix.
