Norbert Mahler was born in 1961 in Bayreuth / Franken. After finishing school he devoted himself to theater, which initially meant joining a group of young artists who found together at the Young Theater Meeting in Bayreuth. One of their performing specialties were parodies of the works of Richard Wagner, including the RING. In this spectacle Norbert Mahler performed Loge, Siegmund and Siegfried. Later Norbert went to Berlin to take drama lessons with reknowned teacher Else Bongers (among others teacher of Hildegard Knef). He first appeared in 1986 in TV dramas directed by Erwin Keusch (DER FLIEGER/ THE FLYER) and Sven Severin (PRINZ). From 1987-1989 he played at the Landestheater Detmold, where he performed as Spiegelberg in DIE RÄUBER (THE ROBBERS), as Mandelstam in DIE HOSE and as Dauphin in SAINT JOAN, among others.Cordula Trantow repeatedly contracted Mahler for her Summer Theater Festival in Weilheimer and Garmisch where he played Kostja inCchekov´s DIE MÖWE (THE SEAGULL, 1990), Benvolio in ROMEO AND JULIET (1992) and Mephisto in FAUST (1998 and 1999). In 2002 and 2003 he performed as Gerichtsrat Walter in the Munich Ensemble's staging of of Kleist's DER ZERBROCHENE KRUG.
1998 Mahler made his debut as stage director in Bayreuth with a production of SUSN by Herbert Achternbusch. He produced Albee's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? in 2007 and Sternheim's DIE HOSE in 2012.
Since 1989 Norbert Mahler regularly appeared in the TV series CAFÉ MEINEID, directed by Franz X. Bogner. In 113 episodes he is court-assessor and later district-attorney Willi Kainz. Mahler has appeared in several TV dramas, and series e.g.: POLIZEIRUF 110, LILLI LOTTOFEE, LIEBLING KREUZBERG, TIERARZT DOKTOR ENGEL, VERA BRÜHNE, FORSTHAUS FALKENAU, ROSENHEIM COPS, MÜNCHEN 7, DIE WOLKE, PFARRER BRAUN and DER BULLE VON TÖLZ, working with Werner Masten, Michael Verhoeven, Michael Braun, Vera Loebner, Hark Bohm, Gregor Schnitzler und Wolfgang Henschel.
